IC Scholars Advisor: Professor Rachel Bzostek
To be fully accepted as a CSU Intelligence Careers Center of Academic Excellence Scholar, a CSUB student must do the following:
Submit a completed application (see website) demonstrating:
A. Grade point average of 3.0 or better.
B. U.S. citizenship or in the process of becoming citizen
C. Other information related to major, career interests, etc.
All program activities except subsidized travel abroad are open to all students regardless of current citizenship status.
Pursue coursework satisfying the following:
I. The Core of Writing and Critical Thinking
English 110, Advanced Composition, or equivalent
Philosophy 102, Logic, or equivalent
Communications 304, Technical Writing, or equivalent
II. Scope and Methods
A. A major or minor in Political Science that includes at least two of the following courses:
Political Science 300, Political Inquiry
Political Science 303, Global Security Issues
Political Science 304, International Relations
Political Science 308, Government and Politics of China
Political Science 323, Politics of the Middle East
Political Science 332, Political Geography
Behavioral Science 307, Developing Systems
Behavioral Science 330, Political Psychology
Political Science 376, Politics of International Terrorism
Political Science 404, Politics of International Commerce
B. A major or minor in French that includes at least two of the following:
French 210, Conversational French
French 311, Advanced Grammar
French 409, Advanced French Syntax
French 410, French Linguistics
French 414, French Phonetics
French 415, Translation Workshop
C. A special minor in Intelligence Studies that includes at least two of the following courses, but no more than two from a single discipline:
Sociology 451
Geographical Information Systems and Analysis
Economic, Environmental, and Global Studies 395
Economic Geography
Criminal Justice 494, Profiling Violence
Criminal Justice 495, Forensic Science
Philosophy 332, Theories of Ethics
Religious Studies 316, Islam
Religious Studies 379, Religion, Conflict, and Peace Making
One or two of the Political Science courses listed in IIA.
Courses from other disciplines, e.g. Computer Science, foreign languages, etc., will be considered and/or approved on a case by case basis.
D. Certification in a strategic language that includes 18 or more units either earned at CSUB or accepted for transfer to CSUB:
Priority will be given to Chinese, Japanese, Farsi, Arabic, and Korean
